Acrylic, moody, painting of the Stanage Edge in the heart of the Peak District with the setting sun bouncing off the gritstone.

Standing before the raw gritstone cliffs of Stanage Edge, a moment of stillness.

The Peak District has a way of demanding attention with its weathered ridges, vast moorland stretching endlessly. But it was the light that captured me. That particular quality of the setting sun, how it caught the stone and set it ablaze. I began with layers of deep ochre and burnt sienna, building the foundation of the rock face. Each stroke followed the natural contours, imitating the landscape's natural flow. As I worked on the sky I had to hold back to not add too much, not work into it too much otherwise the base ochre would be lost.

This painting is a conversation between light and shadow, between the permanence of the landscape and the fleeting beauty of a single moment. It is the Peak District. Dramatic, and utterly transformative.
