A Moment of Stillness
Acrylic on Canvas 70cmx50cm
The calm after the storm.
I painted this to capture that precise moment—when the weather breaks and the Peak District reveals itself through the mist. I love working with movement and mood. The wet streaks bleeding down the canvas echo the rain-soaked landscape, while the gritstone remains deliberately harsh and unforgiving. The pink heather and milestone ground it firmly in place, anchoring the scene to this corner of England.
The texture (and specific areas which lack texture) is everything here. This contract between the misty horizon and bold foreground is what makes you feel the weight of the atmosphere lifting, and a new moment beginning.
It makes me feel calm, and exhale. How does this make you feel?
