When Mr and Mrs Brooks reached out to us, they had a beautiful vision in mind—a textured acrylic painting that would capture the essence of their special celebration and honour the life that they've created together in the heart of the Peak District. It was a privilege to bring their story to canvas.
The brief was simple: texture, Peak District Heather, and Stanage Edge - the place where they first met climbing together. A brief like that is every artist's dream, it gives you just enough direction but still allows your personal style to shine through. Thank you for your trust!
To bring this sweeping landscape to life, we began with a warm ochre underpainting to amplify the contrast between the shadows and highlights.
The next layer is where things started to come alive. We worked colour into the sky and laid deep purples into the shadow areas to map out the direction of the light — those violet shadows are doing a lot of the heavy lifting here!
After layering, layering...and more layering, we finalised the painting with details, bouncing the light off the rock as it set on the horizon...
Finally... one last touch...
